Putting Information Into Action

In 2017 we began putting Information Into Action by training two indigenous communities to use new technologies to stop deforestation. Using near real-time satellite information, smartphones and drones communities were able to identify and take action against deforestation before it got underway.

The results were incredible. Within a matter of months communities had eliminated the deforestation that was destroying their home.

Now we have scaled up this project to 36 more communities. Their territories cover 600,000 acres and are bound by the Amazon, Napo, and Apayacu rivers. It's a lush rainforest home to trees that are carbon-storing powerhouses and where macaws converge and panthers still roam. But it is also an area beset by drug traffickers, illegal loggers and miners.

That is why need your help.

With our help, these 36 indigenous communities are banding together to end the exploitation and violence against their people and protect their forest homes for generations to come. We did it once and we can do it again--but we need your help.

One of our generous donors is matching all gifts to this program 1:1 up to $250,000.
